Five years ago, a friend of Kim’s rescued Opal, a standard donkey, and Hoadie, a miniature donkey. Kim wanted to keep them together because Hoadie and Opal have been together for many years and are deeply bonded. Kim says they are friendly and entertaining. Opal is a twenty-year-old and Hoadie is an eighteen-year-old and Opal outweighs Hoadie by 350 lbs, but size and weight don’t seem to make a difference to Hoadie, who thinks he is the boss. Their favorite activities are rolling in dirt, roaming the Hill Country, and eating carrots, watermelon, pasture grass, and sweet grain. To prepare for their painting they had their hair done and hooves moisturized. They split the work with Opal doing the lip part and Hoadie doing the rear part of the painting. They liked the painting experience because they got to eat carrots and grain and they got lots of attention from people.
