THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT

Our first painting is called “The Long and the Short of It” – in honor of Maddie’s unique shape. Being a Dachshund / Lab mix makes Maddie unique of stature, but it’s her clownish personality that makes her loved by all. From the postman to elementary school children, seems everyone stops what they are doing to be with her. Like a rock star, her guardians are frequently asked by passers-by if they can take her picture. Maddie’s favorite activities are treeing unreachable possums, snapping at spraying water from a garden hose or sprinkler, removing the contents of purses in search of Kleenex and gum, and dominating her brother Finn. She loves to eat bananas, carrots, and sweet potatoes, but she also has an affinity for deer pellets and anything squashed flat in the road. To prepare for her painting, Maddie took a meeting with the amazing local artist, Susannah Blanton, to discuss how to best capture the joy of being a Dachshund / Lab mix. With an undeniable silhouette to work with, Susannah created a beautiful canvas with pop art overtures. As a way of opposing elitist culture in art, Maddie then stamped prints of her paw to establish an everyday image as art. Maddie thought her art session was a fabulous way to spend the day, and receiving treats for zigzagging across the canvas only made it better.
