Heartworm

Heartworm disease is a serious parasitic infection spread through mosquito bites. It is important for all dogs to be on heartworm preventative year round, and to seek immediate care if infected as heartworm infection is dangerous to your pet and will most likely lead to death if untreated. Animal Trustees provides heartworm testing and offers preventative. In case of heartworm infection, we offer treatment through our Spay & Neuter clinic. Heartworm treatment takes time and care on the part of the owner, we strive to ease the process by providing affordable treatment and the resources of our knowledgeable staff.

If your dog has tested positive for heartworm disease the first step toward treatment is to schedule heartworm blood work. Please call (512) 450-0111 or contact heartworm@animaltrustees.org to arrange an appointment.

If your dog has had heartworm treatment, please carefully read the information you were given at the time of treatmentt. It is extremely important that your dog have restricted activity for 6 weeks after their treatment. Please contact Animal Trustees immediately if you notice your dog coughing, vomiting, or having difficulty breathing after treatment.

The best way to deal with heartworm disease is to prevent it. Please keep your companion animal on year round heartworm prevention.
